In any room of your home you can use a bench for storage and your dining room is no different. A storage bench can serve several functions even in a formal dining room. Tucked away in a corner or against a wall, you will have a comfortable place to sit as well as ample room for storage. Keep large serving pieces and dining accessories in the bench until they are needed for your larger gatherings. Placed under a window makes for a nice window seat and adds charm to your dining room as well and we know the cozier the room, the more eating goes on in there.
First off, stick with rich wood tones. From dining tables and chairs to china cabinets, buffets and servers you will want a warm and textured look to your dining furniture to create a traditional feel. Using solid hardwood in shades of mahogany, walnut and cherry will help achieve a classic motif that will befit a formal dining room. Unlike contemporary kitchens and modern outdoor patios that will feature plastic and wicker a traditional dining room is best achieved with sturdy hardwood.
While few of us in these busy times have sufficient inclination to bring out the best damask tablecloth for everyday dining, and reports indicate the few families now sit around the dining table more than once a week. Executive apartments always include a smart dining area in their plans and young couples would expect to include a designated area for dining. Many homes nowadays often only have space for a dining room segment of their living room or an eating area in their kitchen. If this is the case, it is still possible for ideas to be applied and, rather than focusing so much on the fine dining experience, they can incorporate pine bench seating and a pine table or, if money is particularly tight, one of the many black ash dining suite products.
To make decorating successful you need to achieve a room in which you can relax - and that includes keeping clutter to a minimum. Keep spare table linen neatly stored away in an attractive dresser, or other piece of furniture that has sufficient drawer and cupboard space for a home to be found for place mats and napkin rings. There is still a lot to be said for the expanse of the traditional sideboard that used to have pride of place in many dining rooms. Smaller houses seem to preclude the traditional style of sideboard as few modern houses would have sufficient wall space available against which to stand a long sideboard. However, even with smaller houses, height can be taken into account and an attractive piece of furniture with proportions that are tall rather than long would be a welcome addition to any room and can be easily incorporated into many dining room decorating ideas.
There are 5 types of dining space you could have in your home, which will determine styling. For example, if you have a kitchen/diner then a formal arrangement will not necessarily suit the rest of the room. Or, you may be lucky enough to have a separate formal dining room and a conservatory; each room must serve its own purpose. You may wish to use the conservatory for relaxed family dining and the formal area especially to entertain guests. So, this article is broken down into 5 diner types. We've chosen the versatile iron dining table to illustrate new dining room styles as it can be suited to all 5 spaces and can fit in with a variety of décor themes.
One of the biggest issues in dining room furniture arrangements and especially in formal room arrangements is storage for various dining accessories. Those miscellaneous items like bread warmers, condiment servers and napkin rings can be a chore to find a home for without making a room look cluttered or junky. When you are planning out your room arrangement, plan to include another piece of furniture totally unassociated with eating and there are a couple of different approaches to this.
